Mühltalhof restaurant and hotel already has its sixth generation working there. It began as a transformer station, beer cellar, and bottling plant. Later it became an inn – and has remained so to this day – but now adorned with culinary awards. Until recently, owner and head chef Philip Rachinger was cooking and creating in his 1964 kitchen. That has ended. The architects from AllesWirdGut explain how the conversion was conducted and the vision behind it. A futuristic building that gives the impression of a modern boat, in an industrial environment. A unique contrast. The chosen lighting system is as unique as the building itself. It is so powerful that it was used for most of the interior for various ceiling heights up to over five metres. A further requirement was that no lighting fixtures should be visible from the outside through the transparent façade. The place is Oer-Erkenschwick, in the heart of the Ruhr region - an area pockmarked by disused mines - the so-called “Zechen” or collieries. One of them is “Zeche Ewald Fortsetzung”, which was bought by Yesser Falfoul - a man with a vision: His plan is to revitalise the site, which was shut down in the 1990s, with a multi-faceted design concept and make it accessible to the public. The striking iconic halls of the former colliery are to house restaurants, a concept store and a lighting shop. The “Magazin”, the largest of the brick buildings, featuring an almost ornamental façade, was to take centre stage - so Falfoul focused on interior design in harmony with the striking architecture. Concrete, steel and glass are the characteristic materials of the old colliery building. Huge corners and sturdy pillars - typical hallmarks of the industrial style - exude a vibe of solidity built to last for centuries. Find out more about the project on our website.

Work and regeneration – where can this cycle be better illustrated than at a mattress manufacturer's office? The employees of internationally leading Emma – The Sleep Company are dedicated to good sleep. Their offices cover three floors and 4,500 m². The architectural firm VRAI was commissioned to create an attractive and varied workplace at Emma’s headquarters in Frankfurt am Main. We turn night into day, in the best possible sense – and that should be immediately clear to visitors. In the "Emmis" office, recreation has the importance suggested by their products. Classic office spaces alternate with retreat zones for focussed individual work; open spaces promote exchange, and so-called Nap Stations are an invitation to recharge empty batteries horizontally. Here, a great night's rest is no sweet dream, but a well-tested promise. Find out more about the project on https://www.weverducre.com/en/projects/pr/lighting-project-emma-the-sleep-company~49281

A place steeped in history gets a new face Times change – valuable things therefore need to be preserved. This is also the case with De Koolputten ("The Coal Mine"), which used to be a family coal business in Waasland, East Flanders. 100 years ago this used to be a trading port and the economic centre of the region. Now, the historic site is home to a leisure and business hot spot - as diverse as it is sophisticated. Today, guests will find a gourmet restaurant, a bed & breakfast, an event hall and an art gallery there on the banks of the Durme. After the former factory building underwent a complete makeover just a few years after it fell into a state of dilapidation, the spaces between the renovated walls are now the perfect place to enjoy sophisticated dining. This project video shows how light can impact our nightlife by turning public spaces into our urban lounge. Bespoke, multifunctional luminaires create a welcoming environment for travellers and local residents while also serving as urban furniture. ewoIndividual Project Manager Philippe Paupart, lighting designer Vincent Thiesson and ewo France Directing Manager Florent Pigot will guide you through this transformative project at Place de Francfort, in Lyon Part-Dieu. Initiated in 2017 and completed in 2019, numerous talented contributors enabled great designs for this square, with a specific focus on modularity, to help people feel comfortable in this busy outdoor space. The regeneration project transformed the old bus station and the parking lot into a pleasant pedestrian area. Visit https://www.ewo.com/ for more insights on our lighting projects.
